When Asking for Help Feels Hard (Even When You Know You Need It)

There’s something incredibly humbling about admitting you need help—especially when your heart knows it, but your pride, fear, or past wounds won’t let you say the words out loud.
I get it. I’ve been there. And maybe… you’re there right now.
You know you’re overwhelmed. You know you’re running on empty. You know the load is too heavy to carry alone. But still, asking for help? That feels harder than managing the chaos.
Whether it’s from fear of being a burden, shame from past rejection, or just not wanting to look “weak,” many of us silently suffer when help is exactly what we need most.
The truth is, we were never meant to do life alone. And there is nothing wrong with needing support.
For me, it took walking through some of my darkest seasons to realize the strength it takes to reach out. I had to lean on God, yes—but I also had to lean on trusted family and friends. And it wasn’t easy at first. But it saved me from spiraling. Here’s what I’ve learned: God designed us for connection. He created us for community. Even Jesus had disciples to walk with Him.
So why do we think we have to go it alone?
Let me ask you this: Who do you have to lean on right now? Who is in your circle that you can talk to—really talk to?
Take an honest inventory of your support system today. If you realize your circle is small or even nonexistent, that’s not something to feel ashamed about. It just means it’s time to intentionally start building one—whether that’s with a friend, a coach, a support group, or a therapist.
And if you’re a person of faith like I am, remember that God is always near. Even in the silence. Even when others aren’t.He is a very present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).
So today, be encouraged to open your heart. Ask for help. Let someone in. You’re not weak for needing support. You’re wise to seek it.
I find comfort in the Word of God—it’s what helps me in my day-to-day—so let me leave you with this in the hope that it will give you some comfort as well:
“Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” – Galatians 6:2 (NIV)
You’re not in this alone. And you don’t have to be.
